Well, you are not just a single structure of flesh and blood; there are other significant facets or beings within you - soul, flesh, and spirit.
The spirit part, in simple terms, is the part of you that you cannot become aware of with your physical senses. It is predominantly manifested in visions and dreams.
The flesh or corporeal man is the world consciousness; the soulical man is the real you: emotions, intellects, and will - also, self-awareness.
Wholeness - Holistic Nature of Man
Man's existence is a mystery even to man "themselves".
The inability to unravel and comprehend the wholeness of your being is detestably awful. Not knowing who you are in the right measure makes you a target, and consequently susceptible to deception. And eventually damnation.
It is important to know that God did not make us automatons or machines that He can remotely force into doing His bidding. We are completely autonomous: neither God nor the devil can force us into doing something. The devil tricks; God speaks plainly.
Tripartite Man
Man exists in these three forms which have subsets or facets or constituent components:
The spirit or incorporeal man - God Consciousness
The soul - self-consciousness (the site of personality)
The corporeal man - our flesh, world consciousness.
I will focus on the incorporeal/spiritual man:
Have you ever heard someone saying: "I wanted to do a bad deed but 'something' restrained me or told me not to"?
Well, this happens every day. Sometimes even psychopath killers spare some souls. This is rather unconventional for them: why did they spare someone? Well, that is the work of the spirit.
Simply put, the human spirit is the watchdog that SENSES and CAUTIONS us.
Facets Of The Spirit
Facet 1. Communion
This is our contact point; where we can worship God (the true worshippers will worship God in spirit and truth).
That said, you cannot worship God in flesh or soul. It's not about canal feelings but something transcendent.
Facet 2. Conscience
Conscience is the discerning organ. It raises its voice of accusation when offended.
Facet 3. Intuition
It's the sensing organ of the spirit. It's diametrically opposed to physical and soulical perceptions.
So, the conscience judges according to the perceptions of intuition.
Key Takeaways
Our thoughts, feelings, and intentions do not apprehend God. He can only be known directly in our spirits.
Failure to comprehend spiritual enclave, and release the potential of our spirits renders it inadvertently incapable of knowing God. We remain in utter darkness.
Serving God is characterized by knowing him in the wholeness of our being ( serve your God with all your heart (spirit), soul, mind, and might (corporeal man Mark 12.30,31: note the order here, spirit first.
Finally
I liken the spirit to the pinnacle of our being: dripping oil that greases all locomotive organs in the soul and the corporeal sites in our being. Which eventuates in ensuring a seamless process of intimacy with God.
Until next time, peace and grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, be with you all.
